Secret scanning across full repository history
Secret scanning has to cover the whole history of a repository, including old branches and tags. We ask for repository URLs and read access, and which cloud and SaaS providers you use so we can prioritise matches for AWS, Stripe, GitHub tokens and similar. Each finding includes the file, commit and author date to help trace its use. Credentials that look like test values are checked rather than assumed harmless, since test keys sometimes turn out to be live.
Finding a secret is half the job. Every exposed credential should be treated as compromised, revoked or rotated, and logs checked for misuse. Good secret scanning also moves credentials into a secrets manager or environment variables so they stop returning to code.
